This gallery of photographs is a visual exploration of sacred places and
sacred spaces in our world. They represent the Pagan sense of the spiritual.
They show the numerous and varied spaces that we may each find something
special and sacred within.
"'Spirituality,'
as we conceive it, is the apprehension of the sacred, the holy, the divine.
In our modern world we see matter and spirit as antithetical, but our
myths reveal a different understanding. They describe a world permeated
by spirit, where matter and spirit are simply different aspects of the
totality; together they constitute 'being.' All cultures have believed
in power beyond human power, in life beyond death, in spirit. Many have
believed in an animated, inhabited, sacred world surrounding them, the
natural world that constitutes reality." - David Suzuki
This gallery is meant to act as a sequence of visions from the readers
and contributors of Crescent Magazine. From an understanding and practice
of mythology and spirituality, we recognize the connection of the mundane
to the ethereal.

__Eligibility__
to all. Entries must be property and work of the artist. Entries must
be original photographs (nothing from the web unless you are the artist
and have ownership). Artists may submit up to 3 entries.
__Selection__
Up
to 40 pieces will be printed in Volume 3, Issue 2, the Fall/Winter 1999
issue of Crescent Magazine. Those submissions that are not chosen for
publication in the print version of Crescent may be shown in a special
Gallery section of the Crescent Magazine Web Site. Each artist will receive
one complimentary copy of Volume 3, Issue 2.
__Media Specifications__
Only
photographs are eligible - no digital manipulation or other mixed media.
Please use your best judgement when submitting photos. Any photos that
are inappropriate will not be used. Photographs should be of places and
spaces that are special, sacred, or otherwise significant. A written description
must be submitted along with each photograph entered and will be printed
with the photograph in the Magazine, or on the Web Site. Written descriptions
should be between 70 and 160 words and should describe the place - possibilities
for inclusion in the descriptions are: history, folklore, story, significance
of the place. What makes this place unique and special? Share something
about the place that you find interest in - why is the place special and
sacred to you? Photographs will be printed with a caption including: -
artist's name* and - location of the place (City, State, Country) All
photos that are sent in become property of Crescent Magazine and cannot
be returned (unless prior arrangements are made and an SASE is enclosed).
Please keep this in mind when you send in any photos. Entries may be sent
in form of prints, slides or TIFF files (at full size and 200dpi). Please
no photocopies.

Each
photograph must be accompanied with a contract sheet and must include:
- the artist's name* - the location of the photograph (please include
City, State, Country) - a postal mailing address (not to be published)
- an email address to contact the artist (not to be published) *Please
note, that if you wish to use a craft name for publication that you must
still provide us with your real name. If you do not wish your real name
printed, please make that clearly known. When sending in your entries,
please include one copy of the contract below for EACH entry. Please be
sure to fill in your name and the location of the place. If you are submitting
more than one entry please be sure you clearly mark which contract and
written description goes with which photo. This contract serves to state
that you are the artist and owner of the photos you are entering in the
competition and that you are giving Crescent Magazine permission to print
these photos as they are submitted. We must have this statement to protect
Crescent Magazine from any legal actions.

Site of Crescent Magazine.

entering this competition I am stating that I am the original artist and
rightful owner of the photographs. Crescent Magazine will not be liable
for any copy-right infringement or mis-representation of said work.
