there is a single person at the nexus of fantasy literature
in the 1980s and 1990s, it is Terri Windling - as editor, as
writer, as painter, as muse." |

Windling has been a guiding force in the field of Mythic Arts for
two decades - receiving five World Fantasy Awards and the Mythopoeic
Award for this work. Like Joseph Cambell (The Power of Myth) and
Clarissa Pinkola Estes (Women Who Run With the Wolves), Terri believes
that the stories of ancient myth have much to offer us in modern
life. She has been a tireless promoter of the importance of myth
in modern fiction and art in her multiple roles as artist, writer,
and book editor in the Fantasy publishing field.

"I
have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly, for you tread
on my dreams."
- William Butler Yeats
rowing
up in northeastern America, I was raised, as American children often
are, on the myths and fairy tales of Europe. As I grew, so did my
appreciation of "old wives tales" passed down through generations
of storytellers -- for just as nightly dreams reflect the realities
of our waking life, the symbols found in folklore and myth (the
collective dreams of entire cultures) can provide useful metaphors
for the journeys, struggles and transformations we encounter in
modern life.
