About This Piece

The underlying title of this exhibition was "flesh to ashes, ashes to flesh."  The Weaver was the final piece that brought the idea full circle, with "ashes to flesh" written on the canvas itself.

I view time, history, life… as a tapestry. Everything is woven; everyone is a thread who helps to make a pattern.  When all of these people were reduced to ashes, their threads and the possible patterns they could have made were all cut short — the pattern destroyed — lives and way of life and knowledge lost.  It is the job of the weaver to bring these threads to life, to try and connect us to the past through the gap that was created.  To make the pattern anew by taking of ourselves.

"Time of the Weaver," as shown in the large image above, will be available as a print soon! Check the Museum Store for availability.

All proceeds from the sales of "Time of the Weaver" will go to benefit the R.O.S.E. Fund (Regaining One's Self-Esteem), an national non-profit organization committed to ending of violence against women and their children by assisting women survivors of violence to regain their self-esteeem.
