In Memory of Veronica Kuclo-Raub

On Samhain 1999, a dear friend, and respected member of the Detroit Pagan community, was murdered by her husband. Of course this rose more than a few eyebrows of local Christian leaders who used this event as an example of "why you shouldn't be a Pagan." But I don't want to focus on that.

Ronnie (as we all called her) was a great Priestess, as was her mother Gundella (Marion Kuclo) who gave her namesake to Ronnie's store in Garden City, MI: "Gundella's Witch Ways and Wares." It was a gathering place for Pagans and Wiccans from all over the Detroit area. I remember my first visit, being a solitary up till then, and finally meeting people just like me! Ronnie gave us a wonderful atmosphere to meet, work and learn.
She also stood up for local cases facing Pagans, such as the now infamous Dearborn Public School ban on the wearing of pentacle necklaces, portraying them as gang symbols. She was a hardcore recycle nut, being one of the higher members of GC's recycle committee, and knew how to tell a good joke or two (even if they warranted nothing more than smiling groans).

All in all she taught us a lot about our religion, our lives, and ourselves. Her final lesson being, "True in love ever be, lest they love prove false to thee."

Blessed be Ronnie!
