In times
of change, we stand on cliffs and peer into the far abyss
Our Janus heads look fore and aft as choices pluck upon our
sleeve
We measure time in fluid motion, rate the value of each kiss
and judge the feelings of each moment, those which bless and
those which grieve
we run
from school to work and earn, and spend our wages on such
toys
as parents hate: we drink and learn to make our loves and
stay out late
girls give birth and miss exams, not graduates of maths but
boys
who boast, but fear that burden¹s weight, young victims all
of that first date
Decisions
splinter lives and cause deep fissures in the rocks we climb
each chasm up new paths for us to take and thus attain
some new experience or skill for us to utilise in time
the tools which help us in our work, that wisdom we may gain
