The Lore of Benten:
The only female of the 7 Japanese deities of Luck/Happiness (love, luck, wealth, music, etc). She took the form of a dragon woman and swam under the islands of Japan, mating with the white snake that lived there. She did this to prevent earthquakes from harming her followers.

*Blest.* When I was in attendance at the churches of my youth we were Blest by The God Who Existed Beyond (in unison our voices sang those responses: "Blest! Blest! We are Blest by You, O our Father!")

When I discovered the Goddess, I discovered a whole new cadence for the word: bless-ed. One discovery had nothing to do with the other; they simply evolved at the same time. But this new pronunciation changed the very language of my existence.

Bless-ed. One perfect little trochee. The heart's own and only murmur: I am. I am. Thus is one bless-ed from both within and without.

What is She, that alone among her pantheon has the courage to change form and mate with snakes? Why, bless-ed is She

And what of the apronful of gifts she gives us, beauty, love, inspiration and success? Why, they are all that we have, and all that we might be.

Thus, bless-ed are both me and thee.
