Local Portals

The national seamlessUK portal and all local portals can have their own branding while sharing national data sources, deciding their own local search scope, and integrating information from existing local data sources. It is hoped that the system will be taken up nationally in the UK as seamlessUK provides an easy method for authorities to meet some of their e-government targets.

Essex Online - the community portal for Essex www.essexonline.gov.uk

The local portal for seamlessUK in Essex is called Essex Online. Further functionality is being developed by the Essex Online partnership (which comprises the 15 local authorities in Essex together with the Essex Strategic Health Authority, Fire and Police) together with a further 30 public voluntary and community organisations. It is the community portal for Essex and is recognised by the partners as the central focal point for the delivery of e-services to the Essex citizen. An initial limited website is now live and two new transaction services - e-forms (for the 10 public services including planning applications) and e-payments, initially for payment of parking fines will be added during 2003. Other e-services will follow.
